Henry Long is teaching two creativity enrichment classes at the

Grand Opera House starting Monday, October 29th.

 

 

Class One: “Personal Transformation through Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol.”

 

This course explores personal transformation through reading and examining Charles Dickens’ classic novel, “A Christmas Carol.” In addition to reading the text, students will have an opportunity to experience the story through various mediums such as film and theater. This course is open to those 16 and older, and is writing and reading intensive. Students should have a high level of comprehension skill, and be interested in opening pathways to their own creativity and development.

 

Students will learn:

  • The Language of Personal Transformation

  • Creative Writing and Poetry

  • Film Criticism

  • Creative Development

 

 

Class Two: “Experiencing the Arts through Joseph Campbell’s “Power of Myth.”

 

This course explores the arts through a careful examination of Joseph Campbell’s and Bill Moyer’s groundbreaking book, “The Power of Myth.”  Using both the book and the PBS series by the same name, students will learn how Comparative Mythology permeates everyday life and culture. This course is open to those 16 and older, and is writing and reading intensive. Students should have a high level of comprehension skill, and be interested in opening pathways to their own creativity and development.

 

Students will learn:

  • The Language of Comparative Mythology

  • Creative Writing

  • Film Criticism

  • Art History

  • Creative Development
